GOP Shifting, Why it Wont Work; Or Why Whitey is Pissed
Part 1; An Ass Kicking
If the GOP (And in modern times the conservative movement) doesn't maintain its Supreme Court control all future actions undertaken by them will be undermined by the law. All signs point to them loosing control for the first time in almost a century.
Part 2; Mitt Romney Is a D-Bag
Like the rest of the GOP Romney got his well manicured ass handed to him. Conventional and pundit wisdom says it the reason for this is two fold, the first being his inability to appeal to a new demographic, the second being the GOP's drumming out of moderates. This article illustrates the latter. To make it short and oh so sweet he lost because he pissed off the new majority of America by deriding them and failing to appeal to them, he lost a good third of his base because by now they have jumped ship because the rest of there parties handling of the first. They can turn this around right? Get a nice new face? I don't think so.
Part 3; The Southern Strategy
The Southern Strategy was founded in the 30's but made popular by Nixon. It's methods are simple; create a new southern base by appealing to racism against blacks. It served them well. They've held more offices in the past century then any other political party in America. Seeing as how there's only one other major one its not that hard. But this is going to bite them in the butt. A century of scapegoating, ideologising, and out right mother fuckery has created a certain breed of voter. 30% of Americans support the Tea Party movement. Maybe you don't know who these people are...
Yeah. That's 30% of Americans. Maybe this doesn't quiet drive the point home.
That. That is what a century of divisive politics creates. It's angry, stupid, assholes. By 2016 there'll be more minority voters then straight, white, christian types. This is why the GOP is flipping its shit. If they don't get these people on board the gay, black, Hispanic, ect, train they will not have the votes to win an election. In modern history these people have always voted heavily Democratic. If the GOP can't get there self created racist d-bag base to accept this they will continue to loose elections giving more and more control to the Democrats.
They sowed and reaped this southern strategy for 40 years so far since Nixon popularized it in the 70's. Now they suddenly want to flip and abandon that strategies ship. Will there base who was raised on this sort of thing, who hold signs like the above really follow along with there change of heart or will they split into a strange third party? I think the latter is more likely. Look how well John Huntsman, a prototype for what they are trying to do did in there primaries.
I've no doubt they'll pull it off eventually. What matters though is how quick they can pull it off. Can they do it before the Democrats consolidate power? Or will it take a century? If they manage to pull it off by changing there tune and ultimately there soul will they even be the GOP we know today or just some thing with the same name and if they do is this a bad thing?
